About the Democrats
The Bentley Democrats are composed of around twenty to thirty active members. Our goal on campus is to help students understand their civil rights and get active in politics which affect their lives. We stand for democracy and equal liberty, not big business and greed; we are Democrats.
As Democrats we believe that:
- Each and every American ought to have equality of opportunity in securing the American Dream, by; supporting public schools, strengthening federal education aid so everyone can go to college, and expanding access to health care.
- America ought to be a nation of fairness and equality for everyone, and that we ought to be a nation where everyone feels comfortable living, working, and raising a family.
- America is a nation that promotes fairness and equality for all Americans, regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation.
- The government ought to protect a woman's right to choose and respect reproductive freedom.
- Every American ought to be able to breath clean air, eat safe food, and drink healthy water.
- Every worker ought to get a fair shake in our economy, and that we ought to provide safety nets for the most vulnerable members of our society.
- Every American who wants a job ought to have one, that government policies can grow our economy in a way that benefits everyone, and that the government can effectively fix harmful skews in the market.
- The government ought to ensure the safety and security of its citizens through responsible, long-term strategies, such as; taking guns off the streets, hiring new police officers, and promoting our national interests.
- The rest of the world does matter, and that we ought to work hard to promote a positive image of Americans abroad. We must reach out to the rest of the world and show that we not only welcome our membership in the international community, but that we can lead it responsibly.
We meet once a week, help plan and throw events, bring speakers to Bentley to help educate students on different issues, and just generally have a blast in the process. If you're interested in joining the Bentley Democrats, feel free to contact our president, via the contact page, or come to our meetings. This is your college experience; make sure you walk out of it knowing you helped affect Bentley and the community for the better.
