Love Your Body Day

Thank you to everybody who attended Love Your Body Day! The event was a great success, with many people coming for massages, yoga, make-up, and more. We had two terrific masseuses fully booked the entire length of the event. The make-up specialists’ table was full for a good portion of the day (and good luck to everyone in the raffle!) with people finding out about different moisturizers, cleansers, and make-up. (Also, for anyone who didn’t go or know: there’s a contact in Rausch who gives Bentley students 15% off if you are interested.) The peer educators set up a table with a tree about feeling good about yourself and messages to send to your friends. Overall, the event was a definite success again, and our thanks goes out to everyone who participated in making it so!

To Write Love On Her Arms Day

Thank you to all who participated in To Write Love On Her Arms Day with us. We believe that this organization is one that definitely deserves support and recognition, which is why we wanted to bring it to Bentley this year. While simply writing the word “love” on one’s arm may seem foolish or like a very simple and small gesture to many, so many people in the United States are a part of this organization that this small action on the part of all whom support it will raise awareness of its cause (depression and, more particularly, cutting) exponentially. Therefore, thank you to all who participated - or even just learned more about TWLOHA this year. We hope that you bring it forward with you.

Peer Educators

Thank you to the Peer Educators, who came to our general meeting this week! They discussed stress and relaxation with us, as well as touching upon what the peer educator program is doing now. It was a very good program, where we discussed the causes and symptoms of stress, particularly chronic stress, and then went through some relaxation techniques. Thank you to the peer educators - we definitely all benefited from this relaxing meeting for which you joined us!

Deloitte Presentation

Thank you to the women from Deloitte who came to our general meeting October 13, 2009. Their presentation was very informative, regarding Deloitte’s WIN Women’s Initiative and other new initiatives which help to create a comfortable and flexible work culture. This was a different meeting for us, but one for which we would like to thank the presenters and many Bentley women now working at Deloitte for spending the time with us!

American Cancer Society: Breast Cancer Walk

Our annual Breast Cancer Walk event yet again went great! Thank you to everyone who did the three or six mile walk around the Charles River Esplanade. It was a great time with a fantastic turnout. So far the amount raised by this team (only one of Bentley’s teams) is $3,591, which is terrific! Our goal is to reach $4,000 before fundraising ends. Fundraising continues for at least another month, so keep on going with it, everyone. It is definitely a good cause to get behind, affecting a vast number of people.

American Cancer Society: Breast Cancer Walk Reception

The Breast Cancer Walk Reception was quite fun. People came and got their t-shirts, which everybody loved! Great design this year, as per usual. People were very excited for the upcoming walk. A decent number stayed to play Colleges Against Cancer’s Breast Cancer BINGO - which was also a lot of fun. All in all, the food was good, the shirts were terrific, the game was fun, and everyone seemed to have a fabulous time.

The Female Orgasm

The Female Orgasm Event was a great success this year. We had an absolutely phenomenal turnout, filling all the seats in Wilder Pavilion and then having many people sitting up and down the aisles as well as in the back. Throughout the event, the audience participation was quite impressive. Everyone appeared to have a great time and get a lot out of the event. It seems that Dorian and Marshall’s formula of entertainment and information truly allows for the best event possible on a topic many previously experienced as taboo or hushed. In addition to the terrific turnout, the number of students buying items from the back was significantly more this year than in the past (likely due to the addition of their credit card machine).

Cradles to Crayons

Thank you to everyone who came out for our volunteer day at the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory today! It was a great day, and we accomplished a lot. Splitting in half, one group of twelve went “shopping,” with a list per child. They filled their shopping carts with the clothes, supplies, toys, and more requested for the child and wrapped them up. Overall, this group made a total of 88 packages! The other half of the group went to “outfits,” to put together the clothes packs that later stock the shelves and go into future shopping carts. They would be assigned a child’s gender and age and have to fill a clothes pack of so many outfits, pajamas, sweaters, socks, accessories, underwear, and other needed items. Each of these was a lot of work, going through the piles and coordinating outfits (especially with the fact that they kept running out of different clothing items). Overall, this group made and stocked shelves with 18 new clothes packs! That brought our total at the Giving Factory to 106 children helped. Great job everybody!

First Meetings of the Year

Thank you to everyone who came out for our first general meetings! They were very informative and fun, seeing new faces (and many we recognized from the Activities Fair) and hearing about everyone’s summer. We went over who we are and what we do, along with our upcoming events and everything that we’re looking forward to this year. We are excited to see everyone who came to these meetings at our normal Monday general meetings. If you could not make the first general meetings, don’t worry - you can join at any time! (Or, if you cannot make the Monday general meeting time of the 2:10pm activity period in the Women’s Center of LaCava180, still be involved with the Women’s Center by emailing Susan Matano or Megan Parkinson or stopping by the office, keeping involved with the activities, holding office hours, and other ways - just ask and stay in touch!) Just remember - the Women’s Center is always open, Monday through Friday during office hours, as a comfortable space for you to stop by and visit.

First General Meetings of the Year: 9/14/09 and 9/16/09

Welcome back to a new school year! While nobody wanted summer to end, school starting also means activities, which happily means the Women’s Center will be holding meetings again. Our first general meetings will be held the week of September 14th. While the Women’s Center general meetings are typically held once a week during the Monday activity period (at 2:10pm), for the first week, we will hold a meeting during each activity period - one each on Monday the 14th and Wednesday the 16th. During these meetings, we will welcome back old members and greet new ones over pizza. Come to one or both and learn more about our activities and organization - the Women’s Center truly is a great group to join!
